After publicly releasing a free replacement icon for the famous OS X notification system Growl, the software’s developers contacted us to explore the possibility of revamping the previous yellow-claw icon. After re-drawing the paw, emphasizing the palm “pads” and adding copious hair, the new icon added extra character to the original while capitalizing on the prominent public awareness of the old claw metaphor.
